Story
Aesop’s fable of the fox & grapes illustrates the concept of cognitive dissonance (crikey!) - when a person tries to hold incompatible ideas simultaneously – giving rise to our expression of having “sour grapes”.
The fox who longed for grapes, beholds with pain,
The tempting clusters too high to gain;
Grieved in his heart he forced a careless smile,
And cried, ‘They’re sharp and hardly worth my while.'
Taste
Filippo’s Masseria Pietrosa (“Stony Farm”) blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nero is a heady perfume of dark cherries and plums with Mediterranean rosemary and wild thyme. No wonder the fox on his label is defying Aesop and in true Puglian tradition will never abandon his quest for the intoxicating fruit.
Serve
At 16°.
Match
Puglian picnic foods (go on, look it up); focaccia with salami and semi-hard cheeses, orecchiette pasta with vegetables or tomato sauces, garlic and peppers. But best of all, butterfly’d leg of lamb on the BBQ.
Avoid
Being lazy, acquiring questionable morals, crying wolf, accepting challenges from tortoises, not storing food for winter – heck you must have a copy of Aesop somewhere?
Quote
Our diners want to find a welcome, they want warmth; where better than to guide them to Puglia and Filippo’s wines?
