Story
Chile’s an unlikely looking place; 7,000km long and 300km wide; if Chile was a catwalk model, it would be a size zero. Casablanca is one of its cooler winelands, where growing seasons can last a month longer than other regions.
Being so close to the coast, Chile has to contend with the effects of the Humbolt current, which circulates icy Antarctic water from the south, and so cools the vineyards. The serendipitous effect is to create a broad diurnal shift (crikey!); this difference between day and night-time temperatures and the longer seasonal ‘hang time’ has a beneficial effect on the grapes, creating wines with impressive flavour whilst softening the tannins.
Nostros means ‘ours’ in Spanish so the wines need to be something to be talked about; thankfully, with winemaking guidance from Angela Muir MW, Indomita is producing superbly expressive wines that have an irrepressible sense of place.
Taste
This Sauvignon Blanc is a pure, exuberantly fruity wine packed full of grassy, tropical fruit, white flowers & citrus. Instantly refreshing with a lovely tangy finish.
Serve
Chilled at 12°.
Match
Goats cheese salad, BBQ’d chicken with salsa verde, grilled fish, or spicy Gambas Pil Pil (a classic tapas!).
Avoid
Thinking Land’s End to John O’Groats is a travel challenge. Arica to Tierra del Fuego, now that’s a road trip. Take a thermos, and learn “no, we’re not there yet”. In Spanish, obviously.
Quote
Nostros? Well worth spending 33 days underground for, despite not getting a free rock.
